Now that the Aug19 conference has just wrapped up, another exciting affair is being prepared and spearheaded by none other than our class. This is the 2007 Intra-Interpersonal Communication Youth Camp, with the theme "Wake Me Up B4 September Ends: A Roadtrip to Building Bridges through Communication". If no glitches will occur, all third year (and second year, if there will be) will push through with the September 28-29 youth camp in Caliraya Recreation Center in Lumban, Laguna.
During an assembly yesterday regarding the youth camp, the program was presented to all sections concerned. Maam Cherry Pebre , with the help of Mart Elias Carlo Marañon, discussed the pros and cons of the proposal, with more emphasis on the expenses. For P1,500 per head, a first payment will be received on August 31. House rules were also discussed, such as the separation of boys, girls, and gays; which made some noise among the students.
Meanwhile, concept papers for the section's drama entry were passed by Pamela yesterday to Maam Kriztine Viray thru Mart. And as of this moment, three concepts have been chosen by Maam Viray for interview later on this afternoon. Let's just see what will happen next.

I would like to believe that there is no actual perfect section, but it's what the students' hearts have that make their section seamless. As for us, I feel it's way different. Factions, competition, conflicts, insecurities, opportunists, and personal problems continue to divide the class and in short, push away from unity.
Perhaps strong leadership is one thing needed to discipline such class of intellectual people. Most of our classmates agree that because everyone in the class is smart, there is definitely a clash of ideas and opinions that tend to separate us from each other. As Pamela and I both believe that it's very hard to tame this seemingly shrewish groups within the group. Heidi was definitely the best caretaker to handle this lion. She has this sense of authority, unlike me and Pamela.
We have a team of entertainers, a team of academic people, a team of 'billiards', a team of pretty ladies, a team of gimmickeros, a team of simple people, and others who go solo. Maybe a class of over fifty uniquely smart individuals is too large to be united, or is it not?
The Babaylan Festival is memorable because everyone was quite united then. Magandang Bukas was the start and is an evidence of the growing division. The following year, our Majika proved to be a flop on the backstage despite its victory in the college. The Promise was another issue most especially from the conceptualization stage, where the ones to be put on exhibit were terribly discussed and disputed. Those 'intellectual' people appeared to have insulted most of the class because of overpowering the decision-making. The supposed-to-be election became a pinpoint activity by the few. Not everyone may know this, but those who were initially chosen but replaced were disappointed, because they were already asked by Pamela to be put on exhibit. They felt insulted.
Now that the Drama Fest is fast approaching, it is a burden to Pamela on how she will put together these pieces of puzzle scattered in a ghost town. I empathize her feelings that she is being disregarded as a president. It's the same with what I felt when i was on her position. There are those who do not consult with her nor the class and make actions that according to them, are necessary if we want to triumph in the college. I myself am divided with this issue. Pam has a point, the others have too. But the bottom line is, there is no unity.

"Pundido," one of three finalists from the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) – Sta. Mesa College of Communication to ABC 5's "DOKYU: Ang Bagong Mata ng Pinoy Documentaries" Student Documentary Competition, bagged the grand prize and the viewers' choice awards in simple ceremonies held at the ABC 5 studios in Novaliches, Quezon City last August 9.
"Pundido," a documentary about a blind father who sells ice drop and duck eggs to raise his family, edged closest competitors "Kendi Man" and "Nasaan ang Katawan ni Baklesh," both from UP Diliman, after the critics' total scores and audience's text votes were tabulated by the DOKYU team.
Director Richard Christian Suruiz, co-scriptwriters Resa Abigail Nepomuceno and Roseann Guimbangunan, writer/researchers Maria Shiena San Miguel, Lydia Natividad, and Bren Zafra, and editor Adrian Tabalanza received P50,000 cash prize tax-free and three trophies for "Pundido" from ABC 5 deputy managing director Atty. Dan De Padua, head of public affairs Jim Libiran, and news creative director Dodge Dillague.
"Kendi Man" topped the critics' scores with 78.5 out of the perfect score of 90 with "Baklesh" and "Pundido" coming in with a close 78 and 77, respectively. However, "Pundido" pulled away from the pack by garnering 12.79% of the total audience text votes registered while "Kendi Man' could only muster 7.15% and "Baklesh" did not even come close to half of the grand prize winner's aggregate text votes.
In addition, "Pundido" was the only finalist which got a perfect score of 30 from any of the three respected critics from the academe and the broadcast industry, with UP journalism professor Danilo Arao giving it an unblemished mark of 10 in all three categories, namely form/technical, content/relevance, and x-factor.
ABC news manager Ed Lingao, another critic, commended "Pundido" for its "excellent scripting" while documentarist Kara Magsanoc –Alikpala, who reviewed the PUP documentary when it was aired on DOKYU last June 29, applauded the writers and the director for coming up with "a simple story with a lot of heart."
"Kendi Man" director Lorena Flor Dating settled for two trophies, one for being among the selected finalists and another for finishing a close second, while "Baklesh" filmmakers Gerardo Calagui and Vanessa Valencia brought home a trophy, same with the 16 other finalists.
PUP College of Communication Dean Robert Soriano, Department of Broadcast Communication Chair Edna Bernabe, and thesis advisers Angelina Borican and Anna Ruby Gapasin were also present to give moral support to the winners and two other finalists from PUP, "Isla Pulo" by Jophel Ybiosa and Nash Anggahan and "Batang Bakaw" by Bryan Kristoffer Brazil, Leonard Hutalla, Ella Salamanca, Shiela Hombria, Xeriel Tamayo, and Michael Santiago.
The other finalists, chosen from about 200 entries nationwide, are De La Salle University Manila's "When Fingers Talk Pink" (Benedict Navarro, Leo Angelo Maranan, and Cindy Tejada); DLS – College of St. Benilde's "Ingay" (Geann Paolo Mogro) and "DeafTechCom" (Lester Lagos); St. Scholastica' s College Manila's "Frontliners" (Diana Charisse Aquino, Cindy Felizardo, Ivy Lynne Medina, and Johan Say) and "Dikaurong Madiraga Putok/Sakit ng Pulang Lupa" (Princess Asuncion, April Mislang, and Jenifer Tajonera); Colegio de San Juan de Letran's "Biyahed Daya/Biyaheng Langit" (Cyprus Jake Malinao, Olivia Tayam, Ma. Napakaraming interesanteng kuwento talaga ang di ko nailalagay dito, kung bakit ba kasi nauso ang salitang busy-busyhan. Hindi ko na nga nailagay dito ang buong kwento sa likod ng pagsali ni Maam Pebre sa Deal or No Dealeh, pano kasi tong si Arlene di pa rin binibigay yung pic na kuha ko kay Maam. Yun pang hidwaan nung nakaraan sa pagitan ni Ronald at yung first year na bakla. Actually sa Intra/Inter pa lang eh madami nang kwento sa dami ba naman ng activities doon. Idagdag mo pa ang mga kabaliwang naiisip ng mga kaklase natin (pati ata ako, hehe) para lang huwag magklase sa PolGov, at ang mahabang linya ng mga natutulog sa World Lit. At heto pa, ang walang pakundangang paninirang-puri ni Sta. Maria sa mga kaklase natin gaya ni Jozwealth pati na ang suking si Johara. Maalala ko pa yung sermon ni Maam Malaya dahil konti ang nagpasa ng script (kasama ako, misinterpretation/misinformation kasi eh..). At siyempre, ang kritikal na Shakespeare play na buti na lang ay na-move sa Huwebes imbes na kahapon.
Samantala, kahapon ay nag-announce si Heleena at nag-alok na sumama sa taping ng Celebrity Duets sa studio 3 ng GMA-7. Siyempre react ang lahat, pero in the end, may mga hindi pa rin sumama (kabilang ako). Ang alam kong mga sumama ay ang grupo ni Jora at ang grupo ni Ronald. Bagama't hindi ko alam ang buong detalye eh nag-aabang na lang ako na may mabuting pusong magbibigay sa kin ng kopya ng mga pix na nakuha nila sa taping (Renz, pinaparinggan kita). Ang show na ayon sa aking research ay hindi masyadong nag-hit sa U.S. ay konsepto ni Simon Cowell ng American Idol. Ito ang ipapalit sa Pinoy Pop Superstar (na usap-usapan ay dahil hindi sumisikat ang winners) at ang maghu-host ay sina Regine at Ogie. Kabilang sa mga celebrities sina Ana Theresa Licaros (Bb. Nakita rin nila doon sina Lucy Torres at Wilma Doesnt na nagte-taping sa kabilang studio ng A Sweet Life. Ang mananalo daw ay makakakuha ng P1M pero ang kalahati ay mapupunta sa charity.

Para sa 'kin patas lang ang nakuha nating mga awards lalo na sa music video dahil aminado naman ako na hindi superb ang videography at equipment natin. Di ba nga, may nauna tayong concept na iba sa final video natin? Which means to say, bawas na 'yung effort at perang inukol natin para sa final concept. Pero at least, content-wise, quality naman ang video natin especially the message it wants to convey to the audience. Ang isang ikinahihinayang ko ay hindi natin nakuha ang Best Production Number. Para sa akin kasi, dun natin binuhos ang lahat ng effort natin. Sabi ko pa nga sa mga nag-perform dati, since talo naman tayo as Music Video of the Year (fearless forecast ko), dito nalang natin ibuhos ang lahat sa production number... Worth the effort naman dahil kita sa audience na namangha sila nung gabing 'yun. Sabi pa nga ng hosts na sina Minggay at Erysh, "career" kung career talaga tayo.
Anyway, nag-bukas ako ng friendster at nakita ko ang bulletin post ng kaibigan ko sa 3-2 na si Carmela. Kagulat ang post nya:

Basta kailangan nating magsikap para sa darating na Drama Festival. Sa totoo lang, napag-iiwanan na tayo ha... Wala tayong nakuha sa Human Exhibit, tapos humahakot ng awards ang ibang section gaya ng 3-2 at 3-3. Sana talaga magkaisa tayong lahat at magtulung-tulungan... OK? Aja!
Oh yes, pagkatapos ng isang bakasyon, third year na rin tayo. At maraming nagbago. At maraming hindi.
Ang maskom? Mejo nag-iba. Ang charet [Chapel na Cabaret; matatagpuan sa tabi ng guardhouse, yung may mga banderitas] ganun parin, pero ang katabi nitong guard house ay nilagyan na ng rehas na may malaking tala, este logo ng PUP. Isa daw yun sa pinaggamitan ng kinita sa LoveBoble concert. At meron na ring shelter sa kabilang side sa may tabi ng canteen. Ang komento nga lang ng karamihan, mainit dahil walang kisame. Bago na rin ang nurse ng medical clinic (ang suplada nung dati noh?).
Marami ang tumaba sa klase, at isa ako sa mga pinaka-kapansin-pansing tumaba. May ilan ring pumayat. Meron ding nagbabalik mula sa libingan, na si Chrisma. Ang malungkot, may lumisan din. Hindi na raw mag-aaral si Venus at magtatrabaho na lang daw siya. Kaya naman, si Glaiza na ang bagong secretary ng klase, maliban kay Pamela na siyang bago nating presidente.
Taliwas sa naunang naipost dito, hindi na pala S.A. si Jheng. Sa halip, ang tatlo sa F4 ng 3-1 ang mga S.A. ng maskom. Si Mart sa Extension & Linkages, si Vernon sa Dean's office, at si Edryan sa Communication Research. Si Bibat? Hayun, taga-tulong sa tatlo, hehe...

Ang isa ko pang kinakabahan ay si Sir Bert. Nag-aalala ako para sa kanya dahil second floor pa ang klase namin sa kanya tapos sinabi nya pa na mas bumaba ang blood pressure nya. Pansin nga na mas pumayat at mas humina ang boses nya, kaya wish ko lang na maging maayos ang semestreng ito...
No, it's not. The news is, we have our colleagues as the student assistants for this school year. Mart Elias Carlo Marañon renews his contract (artista?!) under Sir Racidon Bernarte. Dean Robert Soriano's new assistant is Vernon Carlo Parreño. And if I'm not mistaken, Diessa Liane Asidao is still in the DBC office.
If you can remember, Mart previously planned to finish his S.A. stint this school year, but according to him, Sir Don doesn't want him yet to leave. When I asked Carlo on his move, he jokingly said that he and Dean made 'brokeback-an' that's why he was easily hired. Well, of course that's a joke. But wait, here's another joke from Vernon. Meanwhile, DBC Chairperson Edna Bernabe has left for the States last May 22. In a text message from her, she said she is not yet certain of her plans to stay there for good. She is also thinking about teaching there. She asked our class to take care of ourselves and she is counting on us to become an outstanding section. She is also asking to take care of her niece Heleena.
At present, the acting DBC chairperson is Prof. Racidon Bernarte. Hmm, I wonder if he's still in charge of the Research, Extension and Linkages Office? I haven't asked Mart yet, but I'll update this entry later.
